Simply unimpressed. After a long weekend of camping I was craving a smothered burrito and what I ended up getting was a soggy mess that instantly gave me a stomach ache. The bathrooms were gross which makes me question what the kitchen looks like. The only positive note is that the woman working was very friendly. Next time I pass through Buena Vista I will be picking a different spot to eat.

Ponchos is a nice place to stop for a bite to eat. I eat there several times a year and always find the food good. Being vegetarian I always like the veggie burger or the black bean and rice burrito "MONDO'D" The breakfast burritos are also good. They will make them vegetarian if you ask. The staff is always friendly and the owner if often working. He is always friendly. They will even come out to your car to take your order to ensure your food gets done quickly in the drive through. I think some of the negative reviews are people who have eaten a few too many times at Chipolte. I like Chipolte as well but find the American style grub at Ponchos always consistent, staff friendly, and the old converted house turned restaurant a unique atmosphere.

Just say no. Was looking for a good breakfast burrito before camping and what I got was a store-bought tortilla shell, a few gray eggs, bacon and cold shredded cheese thrown on top. Glad I opened it up. The 'Dazbog' coffee I ordered was also cold and when I asked for everything heated up I got the look of inconvenience. Sorry but I'd try a different place.

Stopped here on our way back to Colorado and both got burritos--mine was just a simple bean burrito smothered in their pork green chile, and was really good, and my boyfriend got a chicken burrito that he liked also. This place had lots of options, was amazingly fast, and seemed like a good local stop. Especially for groups, this place would be perfect as it had lots of seating and was across the street from the park. Our lunch total came out to about $10.

your run down gas station nachos are better. Good service, poor Mexican food. Didn't have any shake milks, I wanted Mexican.

I don't know about some of the reviews here.. I probably stop at Panchos a couple times a year whenever in BV visiting the fam, and Panchos has been consistently good. It may not be "fine" restaurant dining, its fast food, but its WAY better than McDonalds or Taco Bell!! There are a few bland menu items, but most are good. That said, their Hamburgers are better than most and their fries are some of the best. As for their shakes, they are NOT ice milk, they are real ice cream. If anything its worth stopping just for their fries! :)

You can stand in line at K's or you can roll into Panchos. Get the quarter pounder cheeseburger and steak fries. The tacos are also good but the burgers are their specialty. Also, they have GREAT salsa, it's next to the ketchup and goes great with the fries.

It is good enough for what it is. There are no fast food chains in this town besides Subway, so this is the all encompassing fast food place (and the menu is kind of like the variety pack of fast food) and the only place in town with a drive through. For all the people complaining about the Mexican food being bad, that's like complaining about Taco Bell not being authentic Mexican food. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food, you should probably go to a Mexican restaurant, not a fast food place. The burgers are way better that any burger you could get at a fast food chain restaurant and my personal favorite is the chicken sandwich. And the breakfast sandwich is my stand by hangover cure.

Went there this afternoon for a burrito, and was simply not impressed. The place seems dirty more low budget than their menu prices would suggest. I hiked for 12 hours today on nothing but smushed peanut butter sandwiches and GUs, and still thought the food was lacking. Will defiantly pass next time I'm in town.

The coffee is really really good (5 stars). They use some kind of Russian-style coffee from Denver (Dazbog?) We had several cups over a couple of days, and it was great. Based on limited experience, I can endorse this place for breakfast. Especially if you are staying in one of the adjacent motels, like Pinon Court. Many customers seemed to be local folks, too. We had sausage breakfast burritos (w/ hot salsa), and breakfast burritos with pork green chile. I carried them back to the motel, and everyone liked them. The refrigerated leftovers reheated fine. As breakfast burritos go, these are great. They can make them vegetarian -- i.e. beans, no meat. Service is prompt, and the staff is nice, helpful. I understand their milkshake are very popular, but we did not try them. We did not try the sandwich menu, but it looked like there were lots of options.

This place takes the word terrible to the next level. They microwaved me a Costco burrito. My dad asked for rice. It came in the form of a styrofoam cup filled with bland white rice.

Best place for milk shakes hands down. We drive all the way from Colorado Springs to just get milk shakes. They are always full of flavor and so thick it takes a while to finally get something through the straw. Our secret is the metal slurpee straws from 7-11. I tell everyone to go here when they visit BV. I have only eaten the fries, never tried any other food.

The absolute WORST chicken tacos I have ever had! Tastless meat, stale taco shells that were cold, bits of iceberg lettuce and tomatoes...had "rock gut" for an entire day afterwords and felt like puking. The smothered burritos did not have ACTUAL cheese, but that nasty canned fake nacho cheese under the sorry excuse for green chili! Never again!!

Breakfast on the go....I should have kept going. Yuck! How hard is it to cook some eggs and throw them in a tortilla and keep it warm? Not only was my food cold, but they didn't even get the order correct. Basic order gone awry. When oh when will I find good Mexican food in Colorado. Continued disappointment!

I didn't think Mexican could be bad, but I was wrong. The only thing that had any flavor was the salsa. Everything else was bland, and that goes for every plate that was ordered in my party.

The sign said it was vegetarian friendly. My girlfriend and I aren't vegetarians, but we did notice the menu inside was no more vegetarian than other restaurants. I had a burger and my girlfriend had scrambled eggs. The burger and bun were fairly dry and apparently the eggs were no better. The biscuit and fries weren't bad, but that's really nothing to be excited about.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
